You don't choose your monster, your monster chooses you!

Well, hello! Long time no blog...

It has been a busy year, and I have been very bad at keeping up with the monster blog. Like 10 months bad! Oh well, better late than never I suppose...

The last year has seen a lot of monster activity. I have spent hundreds of hours in the workshop, creating many, many monsters, not to mention the umpteen trips to the thrift stores to collect supplies. I have taken the monsters to markets, several large craft fairs and there are even monsters for adoption in a few retail stores! All in all, a successful year I think. Someone asked me how many I have sold in the past year, and I estimated about 250. WOW! The number took me aback. Really? That many? But I double checked, and that is about right. Who knew that my obsession with strange creatures would end up being a business?

I think what I most enjoy about the creation of these weird and wonderful creatures is the reaction of the people who see them. And I have discovered that the person doesn't choose their own monster...the monster chooses them! There have been monsters that I was sure would sell very quickly, but didn't. Then when I least expect it, the right person comes along and falls in monster-love! It is really quite magical.

I alluded earlier to the critters being in some retail stores now. It is very exciting! The lovely wool shop Knotty by Nature (www.kbnfibres.ca) has been carrying my monsters for a few months now, and I now have some in a shop in Vancouver called "Scraps - the green general store" (www.scrapsvancouver.com) and at the Beaver house fudge and next to nature trading co. At Whippletree junction here on lovely Vancouver Island.

So, thanks for reading, and hopefully it won't be quite so long until the next post!
